Our Story

In 2012 Jock Crothers (center) started Waukeag Neck Oyster Company as a small experimental farm. An avid sailor Jock utilized decades of his knowledge of upper Frenchman Bay to develop the farm.

Graham Platner (left) was born and raised in Sullivan, where he lives with his family and animals. After time in the military, he returned home in 2018 to get involved in oyster farming. In 2019 he took over operation of Waukeag Neck Oyster Company, slowly but sustainably making it a commercially successful small scale aquaculture operation. An inveterate diver and lover of the sea, he also runs a mooring service and serves as Harbormaster in Sullivan.

Rob Cushman (right) has long-time family ties to Sorrento and Frenchman Bay and is grateful for the opportunity to work in a place he loves and knows well. Rob enjoys the physical and mental demands of working on the water, but also delights in the social side of direct marketing and providing oysters to his community. In keeping with his focus on local food, Rob also runs Blue Hill Itinerant Slaughter which provides farmers and homesteaders with on-farm animal processing. He lives with his wife Samantha and their young daughter, Lea, in Blue Hill.
